Past BHA Night Highlights
- Sibley Memorial Hospital was the presenting sponsor of Breast Health Awareness partnering with the Washington Mystics to raise awareness and money for women in the metropolitan area.
- The nationally televised game between the Mystics and the Connecticut Sun featured over 200 breast cancer survivors who were honored guests at the game.
- Monica Thompson, breast cancer survivor, was honored during a half-time presentation
- A live post-game auction raised over $37,000.
Breast Cancer Facts:
- 1 in 8 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime
- As of 2008, there are about 2.5 million women in the U.S. who have survived breast cancer.
- Besides skin cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among U.S. women. More than 1 in 4 cancers are breast cancer.
- 5.7% of new breast cancer cases are among women under the age of 40 years.
